About the Unova Pokedex
Unova is the Gen 5 region from Pokemon Black and White on the DS, with direct sequels Black 2 and White 2. The Unova Pokedex is unique because Black and White are the only mainline Pokemon games where no previous-generation Pokemon appear before the post-game. The original Unova pokedex is 156 entries of entirely new Pokemon.
Starters in Unova
Unova starters are Snivy (Grass), Tepig (Fire, becomes Fire and Fighting), and Oshawott (Water). Final forms Serperior, Emboar, and Samurott round out the Unova starter trio. In Black 2 and White 2, a second Unova starter set (from other generations) becomes available.
Legendary Pokemon in Unova
Reshiram and Zekrom are the Unova cover legendaries, representing truth and ideals. Kyurem is the third member of the Tao trio and fuses with Reshiram or Zekrom in Black 2 and White 2 into Black Kyurem or White Kyurem. The Swords of Justice (Cobalion, Terrakion, Virizion, Keldeo) and Forces of Nature (Tornadus, Thundurus, Landorus) round out the Unova legendaries.
Unova Gym Leaders
Unova has eight gym leaders plus a few extras in Black 2 and White 2. Black and White rotate among Cilan, Chili, and Cress (Grass/Fire/Water starter trio) at the first gym depending on your starter. Iris is the Unova Champion in White and Black 2 and White 2, while Alder holds the title in Black.
Completing the Unova Pokedex
The original Black and White Unova pokedex is a clean 156 with no returners until post-game, which some fans love and others critique. Black 2 and White 2 expand the Unova pokedex significantly with cross-generation Pokemon. Seasonal changes (Winter, Spring, Summer, Autumn) affect which Unova Pokemon appear on certain routes.
