Johto Pokedex

Every Pokemon in the Johto region · 256 Pokemon

256 / 256

Johto was the first Pokemon sequel region and it still does things no region since has. The Johto Pokedex adds 100 new species on top of the Kanto 151, pushing the total to 251 by the end of Gold, Silver, and Crystal. Starters are Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile. Day and night matter here. Lugia and Ho-Oh wait at the end.

About the Johto Pokedex

Johto is the Gen 2 region, introduced in Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal in 1999 and 2000, then remade in HeartGold and SoulSilver on the DS. The Johto Pokedex adds 100 new species to the original 151, bringing the national count to 251 by the end of the Johto pokedex. Johto shares a map with Kanto in the post-game.

Starters in Johto

Johto starters are Chikorita (Grass), Cyndaquil (Fire), and Totodile (Water). Each starter evolves twice: Meganium, Typhlosion, and Feraligatr are the final forms. The rival picks the Pokemon type-weak to your choice.

Legendary Pokemon in Johto

The Johto Legendary Beasts are Entei (Fire), Raikou (Electric), and Suicune (Water), which roam the Johto map until caught. Lugia is the cover legendary of Silver and SoulSilver. Ho-Oh is the cover legendary of Gold and HeartGold. Celebi is the Mythical Johto Pokemon.

Johto Gym Leaders and the Elite Four

Johto gym leaders are Falkner (Flying), Bugsy (Bug), Whitney (Normal, infamous for Miltank), Morty (Ghost), Chuck (Fighting), Jasmine (Steel), Pryce (Ice), and Clair (Dragon). After beating the Johto Elite Four (Will, Koga, Bruno, Karen), Lance is Champion, and the Kanto gyms open up.

Completing the Johto Pokedex

A complete Johto pokedex requires catching the 100 new Gen 2 Pokemon plus most Kanto returners. Day and night cycles and time-based evolutions (like Eevee to Espeon or Umbreon) mean the Johto pokedex cannot be rushed. Breeding, introduced in Gold and Silver, is the only way to get some starter evolutions.
