Kanto is where Pokemon started, and the Kanto Pokedex is still the one most people mean when they say 'the original 151.' This page lists every Pokemon first found in the Kanto region across Red, Blue, Yellow, FireRed, LeafGreen, and Let's Go. Bulbasaur sits at entry one. Mew closes it out at 151. Tap any card to jump to that Pokemon's full detail page.
About the Kanto Pokedex
Kanto is the original Pokemon region, introduced in Pokemon Red, Pokemon Blue, and Pokemon Green in 1996, with Pokemon Yellow following a year later. The Kanto Pokedex lists the first 151 Pokemon ever created, in the order they were catalogued by Professor Oak. Modern revisits of Kanto in FireRed, LeafGreen, and Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee use the same 151-entry Kanto pokedex.
Starters in Kanto
Kanto's starter Pokemon are Bulbasaur (Grass and Poison), Charmander (Fire), and Squirtle (Water). Pokemon Yellow swaps this out: Pikachu is the forced Kanto starter, and the three traditional starters become gifts from NPCs across Kanto.
Legendary Pokemon in Kanto
The Kanto Legendary Birds are Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres, hidden in Seafoam Islands, Power Plant, and Victory Road. Mewtwo, the strongest Kanto Pokemon, waits in Cerulean Cave. Mew is a Mythical Pokemon originally only available through event distributions.
Kanto Gym Leaders and the Elite Four
The Kanto gym leaders are Brock (Rock), Misty (Water), Lt. Surge (Electric), Erika (Grass), Koga (Poison), Sabrina (Psychic), Blaine (Fire), and Giovanni (Ground), who doubles as the Team Rocket boss. The Kanto Elite Four (Lorelei, Bruno, Agatha, Lance) gatekeep the Champion title.
Completing the Kanto Pokedex
A full Kanto pokedex completion means catching or trading for all 151 Pokemon. Version exclusives between Red, Blue, Yellow, and later FireRed and LeafGreen force at least one trade. Mew was never catchable in the original release and requires a distribution event or emulator-era glitch to obtain.
