About Pokemon Crystal
Pokemon Crystal is the Gen 2 expanded version and the first Pokemon game with a playable female protagonist (Kris). Crystal introduced animated Pokemon sprites in battle. The Pokemon Crystal Pokedex matches Gold and Silver's 251 entries, but Suicune gets a dedicated multi-part storyline across Johto.
New in Pokemon Crystal
Pokemon Crystal added the Battle Tower, a post-game challenge arena. Celebi became accessible through a special event. Event Pokemon distributions for the GS Ball unlocked the Celebi shrine in Ilex Forest. Pokemon Crystal also added the Goldenrod Radio Tower story extension and several unique trainer sprites.
Completing the Pokemon Crystal Pokedex
A complete Pokemon Crystal pokedex has the same 251-entry goal as Gold and Silver. Version exclusives are adjusted slightly so Crystal gets a small set of Pokemon unavailable in Gold and Silver. Pokemon Crystal is typically the Gen 2 Pokemon game recommended to new players because of its added polish.
