Trade-only Pokémon
11 Pokémon appear in this Pokédex but cannot be caught in the wild in Blue. Trade them from Pokémon Red to complete your Pokédex.
Pokemon Blue is Red's counterpart and the other half of Generation 1. The Pokemon Blue Pokedex covers the 151 Kanto Pokemon available in Blue, which means you'll find Sandshrew, Vulpix, and Meowth here that are missing from Red. Same three starters, same Elite Four, different version exclusives. Full Pokemon Blue pokedex below.
About Pokemon Blue
Pokemon Blue is the other original Pokemon game, paired with Red for the worldwide launch in 1998. The Pokemon Blue Pokedex covers the same 151 Kanto entries as Red, but version exclusives mean Blue has its own list of catchable Pokemon. Pokemon Blue is the standard pair partner for Pokemon Red in trades and the reason most older players still own both games.
Version Exclusives in Pokemon Blue
Pokemon Blue exclusives are Sandshrew, Sandslash, Vulpix, Ninetales, Meowth, Persian, Bellsprout, Weepinbell, Victreebel, Magmar, and Pinsir. To complete the Pokemon Blue pokedex you need to trade with Red for Red-exclusive Pokemon like Arcanine, Vileplume, and Scyther.
Starters and Gym Order in Pokemon Blue
Blue starters are the same trio: Charmander, Squirtle, Bulbasaur. The rival picks the type advantageous to yours. The gym order in Pokemon Blue matches Red: Brock, Misty, Lt. Surge, Erika, Koga, Sabrina, Blaine, Giovanni, then the Elite Four.
Completing the Pokemon Blue Pokedex
Completing the Pokemon Blue pokedex has the same friction as Red: you need a trading partner to pick up Red-exclusive Pokemon. Blue has some of the cleanest encounter tables of the original Gen 1 games, with tight route variety. Pokemon Blue still holds up decades later as the model every other Pokemon game was built from.
