Scarlet and Violet tell the same Paldea story, so the Pokemon Scarlet vs Violet question is which legendary and which exclusives you want. Each version has 39 wild Pokemon the other doesn't, and the Paradox Pokemon are split between them. Scarlet has Koraidon and Great Tusk, and Violet has Miraidon and Iron Treads.
Which Pokemon only one version has

Scarlet has the Paradox Pokemon Great Tusk and Flutter Mane, and Violet has Iron Treads and Iron Valiant. The older dragons are split as well. Scarlet has Tyranitar and Hydreigon, while Violet has Salamence and Dragapult.

Koraidon or Miraidon in the Great Crater

- Type
- FightingDragon
- Category
- Paradox Pokémon
- National Dex
- #1007
- Debut
- Gen IX
- Base stat total
- 670
Scarlet gives you a level 68 Koraidon and Violet gives you a level 68 Miraidon, both in Area Zero once the credits have rolled. The other one has to be traded in.
The Gym Leaders are the same in both games

Katy's Gym in Cortondo is Bug type, with Nymble and Tarountula at level 14 and Teddiursa at 15. Brassius's Gym in Artazon is Grass type, with Petilil and Smoliv at 16 and Sudowoodo at 17. Whichever version you bought, they're identical, and no other trainer changes either. The only battles that differ are against wild Pokemon.
A Pupitar in Scarlet is a Shelgon in Violet

- Gen II

North Province (Area Two) holds one small swap we found. Scarlet puts Pupitar at level 45 there, and Violet puts Shelgon at the same level in the same spots. (We hope whoever spotted it got a sandwich out of the discovery.)
Which one should you pick?

Go with Scarlet for Koraidon and Great Tusk, or Violet for Miraidon and Iron Treads. Neither game is easier to beat, and a trade with a friend covers whatever you left behind, so take the lineup you'd enjoy raising most.
Scarlet vs Violet FAQ
Can you catch every Pokemon in one version?
No. Each game has exclusive Pokemon, and finishing the Pokedex takes a trade with a friend or a second copy.
Do the games have different stories?
No. The story, the Gym Leaders and the map are the same in Scarlet and Violet.
