Raging Bolt stands 5.2 m tall and weighs 480 kg (1,058 lb). It is a Paradox Pokemon based on Raikou, and it also resembles sauropods such as the Brontosaurus, whose name means thunder lizard, along with giraffes and storm clouds. The longer forelimbs and shorter hind limbs may come from the Brachiosaurus. It resembles a Pokemon that became a hot topic for a short while after a paranormal magazine called it Raikou's ancestor.
Its Protosynthesis ability raises its highest stat in harsh sunlight or while it holds Booster Energy.

Diving Pokémon
National Dex
#0249
Debut
Gen II
Base stat total

Lugia stands 5.2 m tall and weighs 216 kg (476 lb). It resembles a wyvern, and it may also be based on plesiosaurs, aquatic birds and Ryujin, the Shinto god of the sea. Its body and face markings suggest a grey heron, and its rounded feet resemble those of grebes. A light fluttering of its wings can blow apart regular houses, so it chooses to live out of sight deep under the sea.
Its hidden ability (a rarer ability some Pokemon can have), Multiscale, halves the damage it takes while it has full HP.
#13
Dialga

Category
Temporal Pokémon
National Dex
#0483
Debut
Gen IV
Base stat total

Dialga stands 5.4 m tall and weighs 683 kg (1,506 lb). Together with Palkia, it may be based on the Shinto legend of Izanami and Izanagi, who are said to have created one island with a spear and then the islands of Japan. Palkia, its counterpart, stands 4.2 m tall. The birth of Dialga caused the vast river of time to begin flowing in our world.
Its Pressure ability makes any move that targets it cost one extra PP (PP is how many times a move can be used), and its hidden ability, Telepathy, protects it from damaging moves used by its friends.
#12

570
Stakataka stands 5.5 m tall and weighs 820 kg (1,808 lb). It resembles a castle tower, and its white bricks may take after the architecture of the Talaiotic culture of the Gymnesian Islands in Spain. When stone walls started moving and attacking, the true identity of the brute turned out to be this life-form.
Its Beast Boost ability raises its highest stat by one stage (a stage is one step up or down for a stat) when it faints another Pokemon.

Its overall shape is a European dragon with the pincers of a crab, and its spiny, mace-shaped tail resembles those of Ankylosaurus and Glyptodon. It is also based on Agrajag, a creature from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. It is an unknown life-form called a UB, short for Ultra Beast, and it is always devouring something.
Its Beast Boost ability raises its highest stat by one stage when it faints another Pokemon.
#10
Yveltal
#717
Type
DarkFlying
Category
Destruction Pokémon
National Dex
#0717
Debut
Gen VI
Base stat total
680
Yveltal stands 5.8 m tall and weighs 203 kg (448 lb). It is shaped like the letter Y, and it resembles the long-tailed widowbird and carrion birds such as crows and vultures. It may also be based on the Celtic death goddess Morrigan, who often takes the form of a raven. It also bears a striking resemblance to a fungus called devil's fingers. When its life comes to an end, it absorbs the life energy of every living thing and turns into a cocoon once more.
Its Attack and Special Attack are both 131. Its Dark Aura ability strengthens Dark moves to 1.33 times their power for every Pokemon in the battle, friend and opponent alike.
#9
Milotic
#350
Type
Water
Category
Tender Pokémon
National Dex
#0350
Debut
Gen III
Base stat total
540
Milotic stands 6.2 m tall and weighs 162 kg (357 lb). It seems to be based on a sea serpent and a mermaid, and it also resembles an oarfish, which has a very long body and red fins. Its gills are similar to those of lampreys and hagfishes. A glimpse of a Milotic and its beauty will calm any hostile emotions you are feeling.
It evolves from Feebas, which stands 0.6 m tall and weighs 7.4 kg. Its change after evolving may come from the fairy tale The Ugly Duckling. Its Marvel Scale ability raises its Defense to 1.5 times while it has a major status ailment (a condition like burn or sleep).
#8
Gyarados
#130
Type
WaterFlying
Category
Atrocious Pokémon
National Dex
#0130
Debut
Gen I
Base stat total
540
Gyarados stands 6.5 m tall and weighs 235 kg (518 lb). It is based on a Chinese dragon and a koinobori, a carp-shaped windsock, and it is heavily hinted to come from the Chinese tale of a carp that becomes a dragon after leaping the Dragon Gate. The tale stands for the drive to overcome obstacles, and the effort it takes to evolve a Magikarp matches it. It is suspected to be the dragon of ancient texts that razed an entire village with white-hot beams from its maw.
It evolves from Magikarp, which stands 0.9 m tall and weighs 10 kg. Its Intimidate ability lowers the Attack of opposing Pokemon by one stage when it enters battle.
#7
Rayquaza
#384
Type
DragonFlying
Category
Sky High Pokémon
National Dex
#0384
Debut
Gen III
Base stat total
680
Rayquaza stands 7 m tall and weighs 206.5 kg (455 lb). It may be based on the Chinese dragon and the Lindworm, and it matches the description of Quetzalcoatl, the Aztec god depicted as a flying serpent. The markings on its body may come from the Nazca Lines. It flies forever through the ozone layer and eats meteoroids, and the meteoroids in its body supply the energy it needs to Mega Evolve (a temporary stronger form in battle).
Its Attack and Special Attack are both 150. Its Air Lock ability negates the effects of all weather, though the weather itself still happens.
#6
Onix
#095
Type
RockGround
Category
Rock Snake Pokémon
National Dex
#0095
Debut
Gen I
Base stat total
385
Onix stands 8.8 m tall and weighs 210 kg (463 lb). It may be a visual pun on a rock python or an earthworm, and its size may come from the Mongolian death worm, a creature said to reach 7 feet (2 meters) in length. It can learn Dragon Breath naturally, which suggests a limbless dragon like the Lindworm. It resembles a giant serpent and feeds on boulders as it burrows deep beneath the ground.
It was the tallest Pokemon of Gen I by a wide margin, since the next one was Gyarados at 6.5 m.
#5
Celesteela
#797
Type
SteelFlying
Category
Launch Pokémon
National Dex
#0797
Debut
Gen VII
Base stat total
570
Celesteela stands 9.2 m tall and weighs 999.9 kg (2,204 lb). It may be based on Princess Kaguya, who was found as a baby inside a bamboo stalk in The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter and came from the Moon. Its body may also resemble the spacecraft SELENE, which is nicknamed Kaguya in Japan and orbited the Moon between 2007 and 2009. It is a common organism in the world where it normally lives, even though it is alien to this one and a danger here.
It weighs more than twice as much as Steelix. Its Beast Boost ability raises its highest stat by one stage when it faints another Pokemon.
#4
Steelix
#208
Type
SteelGround
Category
Iron Snake Pokémon
National Dex
#0208
Debut
Base stat total
Steelix stands 9.2 m tall and weighs 400 kg (882 lb). Like Onix, it may be based on a snake crossed with an earthworm, and it may also be the bergstutz or stollwurm, a type of dragon that burrows. Its body is coated with steel powder and is so hard that not even diamond can leave a scratch. Mega Steelix has a crystalline body, which may refer to graphite turning into diamond under compression.
It evolves from Onix and gained only 0.4 m of height from it. Its Rock Head ability protects it from recoil damage (damage a Pokemon takes from its own move).
#3
Dondozo
#977
Type
Water
Category
Big Catfish Pokémon
National Dex
#0977
Debut
Gen IX
Base stat total
530
Dondozo stands 12 m tall and weighs 220 kg (485 lb). It is based on the wels catfish, which has been known to beach itself to seize birds on the ground, and the birds in Dondozo's diet may come from that. It may also be a sushi chef, given its bandana-like frills and its relationship with Tatsugiri. It treats Tatsugiri like its boss and follows it loyally, and it is apparently not very smart.
It is nearly twice as tall as Gyarados and weighs less. Its Unaware ability makes it ignore other Pokemon's stat changes when it calculates damage and accuracy. (We have met people who treat that as a lifestyle.)
#2
Wailord
#321
Type
Water
Category
Float Whale Pokémon
National Dex
#0321
Debut
Gen III
Base stat total
500
Wailord stands 14.5 m tall and weighs 398 kg (877 lb). It is based on the blue whale, the largest known animal to have ever existed, and it also resembles a submarine, a blimp and a torpedo. Its immense size is the reason for its popularity, and watching Wailord is a favorite sightseeing activity in various parts of the world.
It evolves from Wailmer, which stands 2 m tall and weighs 130 kg. Its Water Veil ability prevents burns.
#1
Eternatus
#890
Type
PoisonDragon
Category
Gigantic Pokémon
National Dex
#0890
Debut
Gen VIII
Base stat total
690
Eternatus stands 20 m tall and weighs 950 kg (2,094 lb), which is 5.5 m taller than Wailord. Its abilities may draw on nuclear power, since its supply of energy seems endless and leaks out as particles. In fiction, nuclear radiation is often what creates kaiju. It also vaguely resembles aliens from various pieces of media. There seems to be a connection between it and the Dynamax phenomenon.
Its Pressure ability makes any move that targets it cost one extra PP.
Two Tiny Fish Became Giants
Four of the 15 evolved from something smaller, and Feebas made the biggest jump in relative terms. It stands 0.6 m tall and becomes the 6.2 m Milotic, which is over ten times taller. Magikarp stands 0.9 m tall and becomes the 6.5 m Gyarados. Both start with a base stat total of 200 and end at 540. Wailmer grows from 2 m to 14.5 m, and Onix gains only 0.4 m on the way to Steelix because it was already tall.
