Most Pokemon are light enough to carry. The heaviest ones weigh close to a metric ton, and only 18 Pokemon weigh more than 500 kg. Eight of those 18 are legendary or mythical Pokemon, and six are part Steel.

Weight also counts in battle. Low Kick and Grass Knot get stronger the heavier the target is and reach their maximum power of 120 against anything above 200 kg. Heavy Slam and Heat Crash work from the other side, because they get stronger the more their user outweighs its target. Only 86 Pokemon pass 200 kg. (Our own weight has never added power to anything.)

Here are the 15 heaviest Pokemon:

The 15 Heaviest Pokemon

#15

Gouging Fire

Gouging Fire official artwork
Type
FireDragon
Category
Paradox Pokémon
National Dex
#1020
Debut
Gen IX
Base stat total
590

Gouging Fire weighs 590 kg (1,301 lb) and stands 3.5 m tall. It is based on Entei, and it also resembles ceratopsian dinosaurs such as Styracosaurus, which have a similar arrangement of horns around the head. The weight comes from a large four-legged build. It resembles an eerie Pokemon once shown in a paranormal magazine, said to be an Entei regenerated from a fossil.

Heavy Slam and Heat Crash reach their maximum power of 120 when the user weighs more than five times its target. For a user at 590 kg, that means any target under 118 kg.

#14

Copperajah

Copperajah official artwork
Type
Steel
Category
Copperderm Pokémon
National Dex
#0879
Debut
Gen VIII
Base stat total
500

Copperajah weighs 650 kg (1,433 lb) and stands 3 m tall. It is based on an Indian elephant with the digging bucket of a backhoe for a trunk, and it may also be inspired by the elephant statues made of copper or bronze that are common in Indian art. Copperajah live in herds, and their trunks have incredible grip strength, strong enough to crush giant rocks into powder.

Its hidden ability (a rarer ability some Pokemon can have), Heavy Metal, doubles its weight. That makes it count as 1,300 kg in any move that checks weight. Its other ability, Sheer Force, makes moves with extra effects 1.3 times as strong.

#13

Dialga

Dialga official artwork
Type
SteelDragon
Category
Temporal Pokémon
National Dex
#0483
Debut
Gen IV
Base stat total
680

Dialga weighs 683 kg (1,506 lb) and stands 5.4 m tall. It is based on short-necked sauropod dinosaurs such as Camarasaurus, and the diamond-shaped ends of the turquoise pattern on its body resemble clock hands. Its Steel type likely comes from adamant, an old word for diamond that means unconquerable, and from the fact that most parts of a clock are made of metal. Dialga is revered as a deity in Hisuian legend, and its birth made the river of time begin to flow.

Low Kick is a Fighting move, and Steel takes double damage from Fighting. A 683 kg Dialga is above the 200 kg line, so a Low Kick against it gets its full 120 power on top of that double damage. (Even a god of time cannot dodge a heavy-target move.)

#12

Ting-Lu

Ting-Lu official artwork
Type
DarkGround
Category
Ruinous Pokémon
National Dex
#1003
Debut
Gen IX
Base stat total
570

Ting-Lu weighs 699.7 kg (1,543 lb) and stands 2.7 m tall. It looks like a member of the deer family such as the moose or the elk, and the cracked vessel on its head is based on a dǐng, an ancient Chinese cauldron that served as a symbol of imperial authority. Ting-Lu slowly brings its exceedingly heavy head down upon the ground, splitting the earth open with huge fissures that run over 160 feet deep.

Ground takes double damage from Grass, so Grass Knot hits it for double damage at the 120 power maximum. It stops 0.3 kg short of a round 700, which is the kind of near miss we know well. Its Vessel of Ruin ability lowers the Special Attack of all other Pokemon.

#11

Cetitan

Cetitan official artwork
Type
Ice
Category
Terra Whale Pokémon
National Dex
#0975
Debut
Gen IX
Base stat total
521

Cetitan weighs 700 kg (1,543 lb) and stands 4.5 m tall. It is based on cetaceans, especially the right whale, and the horns on its head resemble the thick, hardened patches of skin that right whales have on their heads. Its white coloration and large head may come from the beluga, and its horns may come from the narwhal. Ice energy builds up in the horn on its upper jaw until the horn reaches cryogenic temperatures that freeze its surroundings.

Its Thick Fat ability halves damage from Fire and Ice moves, which suits an animal built around blubber.

#10

Giratina

Giratina official artwork
Type
GhostDragon
Category
Renegade Pokémon
National Dex
#0487
Debut
Gen IV
Base stat total
680

Giratina weighs 750 kg (1,653 lb) and stands 4.5 m tall. According to Junichi Masuda and Takeshi Kawachimaru, Giratina and the Distortion World are personifications of antimatter. In its Altered Forme it resembles a European dragon or a sauropod, and its body and pose resemble some sphinx moth caterpillars. One Hisuian verse tells of a powerful light creating a deep shadow, and that shadow is Giratina.

Its weight makes it a full-power target for Low Kick, except that Ghost types take no damage from Fighting moves.

#9

Glastrier

Glastrier official artwork
Type
Ice
Category
Wild Horse Pokémon
National Dex
#0896
Debut
Gen VIII
Base stat total
580

Glastrier weighs 800 kg (1,764 lb) and stands 2.2 m tall. It is a Wild Horse Pokemon, and it may be based on the Horsehead Nebula, a horse-shaped nebula near the constellation Orion, along with the Monoceros (unicorn) constellation, which also borders Orion. Its relationship with Calyrex, the king that rides it, appears to come from the legend of Brian Boru and the Pooka, a faery in the form of a black horse. Glastrier has tremendous physical strength, and the mask of ice covering its face is 100 times harder than diamond.

Its Chilling Neigh ability boosts its Attack after it knocks out a Pokemon.

#8

Melmetal

Melmetal official artwork
Type
Steel
Category
Hex Nut Pokémon
National Dex
#0809
Debut
Gen VII
Base stat total
600

Melmetal weighs 800 kg (1,764 lb) and stands 2.5 m tall. Its head and features resemble hexagonal nuts, and its body may be based on gallium or mercury, which are both metals with low melting points. A body made of gallium, which melts at 86 °F (30 °C), would not last through a warm afternoon. Centrifugal force is behind the punches of its heavy hex-nut arms, and it is said to deliver the strongest punches of all Pokemon.

It is classed as a mythical Pokemon. Its Iron Fist ability strengthens punch-based moves to 1.2 times their power.

#7

Stakataka

Stakataka official artwork
Type
RockSteel
Category
Rampart Pokémon
National Dex
#0805
Debut
Gen VII
Base stat total
570

Stakataka weighs 820 kg (1,808 lb) and stands 5.5 m tall. It resembles a castle tower, and it may take inspiration from the Mokumokuren and the Nurikabe, two Japanese yōkai that live in walls or block the way of travelers in the guise of a wall. When stone walls started moving and attacking, the brute's true identity was this mysterious life-form, which brings to mind an Ultra Beast (an alien Pokemon from another world).

Its Beast Boost ability raises its highest stat by one stage when it faints another Pokemon.

#6

Guzzlord

Guzzlord official artwork
Type
DarkDragon
Category
Junkivore Pokémon
National Dex
#0799
Debut
Gen VII
Base stat total
570

Guzzlord weighs 888 kg (1,958 lb) and stands 5.5 m tall. It is based on abominations such as those in the works of Lovecraft, and its black and yellow coloring comes from earthmoving machinery. Its habit of eating almost anything while excreting nothing may also point to a black hole. Guzzlord is an unknown life-form called a UB, and it may be constantly hungry and is certainly always devouring something.

A Pokemon that eats everything and passes nothing has to keep the mass somewhere, and 888 kg is where it ends up. Its Beast Boost ability raises its highest stat by one stage when it faints another Pokemon.

#5

Mudsdale

Mudsdale official artwork
Type

Category
Draft Horse Pokémon
National Dex
#0750
Debut
Gen VII
Base stat total
500

Mudsdale weighs 920 kg (2,028 lb) and stands 2.5 m tall. It resembles draft horses such as the Clydesdale, which are known for the feathering on their legs, and its hair looks like dreadlocks. Mudsdale has so much stamina that it could carry over 10 tons across the Galar region without rest or sleep. (We cannot carry the groceries in one trip.)

Its Stamina ability raises its Defense by one stage each time it takes damage from a move.

#4

Eternatus

Eternatus official artwork
Type
PoisonDragon
Category
Gigantic Pokémon
National Dex
#0890
Debut
Gen VIII
Base stat total
690

Eternatus weighs 950 kg (2,094 lb) and stands 20 m tall, the tallest Pokemon in the Pokedex. Its dragon-like appearance may be inspired by Uther Pendragon, who started using dragons on his standards after seeing a dragon-shaped comet. Its overall body shape resembles the skeletal remains of a European dragon, with the ribcage shaped like a cannon. Eternatus was inside a meteorite that fell 20,000 years ago, and it seems to be connected to the Dynamax phenomenon.

Its Pressure ability makes any move that targets it cost one extra PP (PP is how many times a move can be used).

#3

Groudon

Groudon official artwork
Type
Ground
Category
Continent Pokémon
National Dex
#0383
Debut
Gen III
Base stat total
670

Groudon weighs 950 kg (2,094 lb) and stands 3.5 m tall. It may be modeled after the Earth's land and volcanoes, and it resembles a theropod dinosaur with spikes like those of various ankylosaurs. Its category is the Continent Pokemon, and it can cause magma to erupt and expand the landmass of the world. It weighs the same as Eternatus.

Its Drought ability summons strong sunlight that lasts indefinitely when it enters battle. Heavy Slam and Heat Crash from a user this heavy reach full power against any target under 190 kg.

#2

Celesteela

Celesteela official artwork
Type
SteelFlying
Category
Launch Pokémon
National Dex
#0797
Debut
Gen VII
Base stat total
570

Celesteela weighs 999.9 kg (2,204 lb) and stands 9.2 m tall. It may be based on Princess Kaguya from The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, who was found as a baby inside a bamboo stalk and turned out to come from the Moon. Its design combines bamboo shoots and trunks with elements of a space shuttle, and it is exclusive to Pokemon Moon and Ultra Moon. Celesteela is alien to this world and a danger here.

It weighs the same as Cosmoem. Steel takes double damage from Fighting and Flying takes half, so Low Kick at full power hits it for normal damage. Its Beast Boost ability raises its highest stat by one stage when it faints another Pokemon.

#1

Cosmoem

Cosmoem official artwork
Type
Psychic
Category
Protostar Pokémon
National Dex
#0790
Debut
Gen VII
Base stat total
400

Cosmoem weighs 999.9 kg (2,204 lb) and stands 0.1 m tall. It has characteristics of both a stylized sun and a stylized moon. Its enormous weight despite its extremely small size shares similarities with super-compressed astronomical bodies such as black holes and neutron stars. Cosmoem sucks in dust from the air at an astounding rate, frantically building up energy within its core as preparation for evolution.

Its Sturdy ability stops it from being knocked out from full HP, leaving it at 1 HP instead. (At 0.1 m tall, it is the one object we would still not try to lift.)

The Heaviest Pokemon Arrived Late

Twelve of the 15 heaviest Pokemon come from Generation VII or later. The first six generations, 721 Pokemon in all, put only Groudon, Dialga and Giratina on this list, while Generation VII alone added six.

Cosmoem, at the top, stands 0.1 m tall. Its design draws on super-compressed bodies such as black holes and neutron stars, which is how a Pokemon that small reaches 999.9 kg.
