The Origins of 3 Goat Pokemon & the Legends They Came From

The Origins of 3 Goat Pokemon & the Legends They Came From
The list
  1. Cobalion
  2. Skiddo
  3. Gogoat

Goats appear in a lot of myths, but Pokemon has only three of them. The grass on Skiddo and Gogoat may come from Pan and Faunus, the half-goat gods of nature, and Cobalion's Steel type may be a pun on a title held by one of the Three Musketeers. Skiddo and Gogoat are filed as the Mount Pokemon, since people ride them.

Here are the origins of the 3 goat Pokemon:

Debut
Gen V
Base stat total

Cobalion, the Iron Will Pokemon, resembles several hoofed animals, most of all the markhor, a wild goat, along with the stag and antelopes such as the greater kudu and the common eland. Like the others of its trio, it has the nose of a sheep or goat. Cobalion and its comrades draw on the Three Musketeers, and Cobalion's Steel type may refer to Athos's title, Count de la Fère, a pun on fer, the French word for iron.

Cobalion radiates the air of a leader from the moment it's born, and its presence will calm even vicious foes. (We have the opposite effect on a room.)

It is a legendary Pokemon, 2.1 m tall and 250 kg. Its Justified ability raises its Attack one stage when a Dark move hits it (an ability is a passive effect that works on its own in battle).

Skiddo

Category
Mount Pokémon
National Dex
#0672
Debut
Gen VI
Base stat total
350

Skiddo, the Mount Pokemon, is based on a goat, possibly a bharal or dwarf bharal given its horns. It is also based on a bike, since it can be ridden and its horns look like riser handlebars. The grass growing on its back may come from Pan or Faunus, the half-goat, half-human gods of nature, or from the yule goat, a traditional figure made of hay in northern Europe.

If it has sunshine and water, it doesn't need to eat, because it makes energy from the leaves on its back. We would save so much money on lunch.

Its Sap Sipper ability absorbs Grass moves aimed at it and raises its Attack one stage instead of taking damage. It stands 0.9 m tall.

#673

Gogoat

National Dex
#0673
Debut
Gen VI
Base stat total
531

Gogoat, the Mount Pokemon, is based on a goat, possibly a bharal, dwarf bharal or ibex given its horns, though they also resemble the horns of gazelles and antelopes. Where Skiddo is a bike, Gogoat is a motorcycle, ridden with horns shaped like beach bars. It keeps Skiddo's grass, with the same links to Pan, Faunus and the hay yule goat.

Gogoat live in mountainous regions, and the leader of the herd is decided by a battle of clashing horns. We have sat through worse elections.

Its hidden ability, Grass Pelt, boosts its Defense while Grassy Terrain, a field effect that covers the battlefield in grass, is active.

Two of the 3 Goat Pokemon Are Built Around Leading

Cobalion radiates the air of a leader from the moment it is born, and Gogoat herds choose their leader in a battle of clashing horns. Skiddo is the one that lets you lead instead, since you can ride it like a bike.
